ME & BEDLAM
The site title is a play on Tom O'Bedlam, a madman, albeit a fictional one. He most famously appears in this anonymous lyric (which can be found with a number of variations) as well as in Shakespeare. This is the final verse:
With an host of furious fancies
Whereof I am commander,
With a burning spear and a horse of air
To the wilderness I wander.
By a knight of ghosts and shadows
I summoned am to tourney,
Ten leagues beyond the wide world’s end –
Methinks it is no journey.
Anonymous
My youth was spent about equally between the covers of books and on mountainsides. I have had many jobs but never wanted a career. As a woman of middle age, with no partner and no children, all I have to lose now is time. So I am embracing the “madness”.
I am Tam, setting out for ten leagues beyond the wide world's end.
BOMBADIL
Bombadil is a 2002 Ford Econoline E350. He came to me with a fiberglass topper, a fancy pants window on the side and about 125,000 miles on the odometer. I will be converting him into a camper van which I intend to live in and travel the United States for some indeterminate amount of time.
He is named after Tom Bombadil from the Lord of the Rings.
